Greetings from Mooma Jane (formerly known as Mama Jane)!
It’s hard to believe that it’s only been ten days since my surgery and I feel this good. Of course, the brilliance of a spring day is always hard to beat especially when the daffodils are lifting their heads to the morning sun. However, it has been the love and support of family and friends that have seen me through this experience. I can’t thank you all enough for your cards, phone calls, prayers, e-mails and flowers but, most of all, I want to thank you for following Paige’s blog and for writing messages on it. She would read them to me each evening and the joy it brought me cannot be described. Love and laughter are the two things you need most for your heart to heal and I certainly have had those in spades thanks to all of you.
As I sat looking out my window at the landmark dome of Johns Hopkins Hospital I was frequently overwhelmed by feelings of gratitude for just being alive thanks to the superb skills of my surgeon and their medical staff. Since this is where Caroline had her own open heart surgery twenty-one years ago we are both incredibly indebted to this venerable institution. I received excellent care and cannot say enough good things about Hopkins.
My children have all been so supportive each in their own way, and from reading the blog you know that wasn’t always easy. Let’s just say that you go from feeling like you cannot possibly move to feeling like you are once again fully alive yet still unable to do some of the things we all take for granted. As soon as the nurse comes today to remove some sutures and I finally get to take a shower I think even Paige, “The Enforcer,” will find it hard to hold me down. Isn’t it amazing to think much of my success is made possible by some wonderful cow out there in Moo Moo Land, in addition to the miracle of the human body?
Please do call or come by whenever you can. The Incredible/Irreplaceable Paige is keeping track of our calendar so I won’t get too tired, but I will certainly welcome your company. As much as I love reading and watching movies, it can’t compare with human contact. Besides, I don’t want Paige to get tired of me! Recuperation from open heart takes a long time, so don’t worry about missing out on a visit to the Cow Lady. I’ll be hanging out at Rabbit Hill until beach time.
Love to you all,
Jane
Yay! I message straight from the horse's, (oops, cow's) mouth! You sound great, Jane, not that I didn't believe Paige, but it's wonderful to hear from you directly. I understand 100% how you're feeling about the support of friends and family. I believe strongly that God works through people who care and actively help however they can. Enjoy this day.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jane! You sound wonderful!! And, I'm sure by this time in the day, you've finally gotten that shower - and that is a huge step towards joi de vivre once again!! And....your wonderful family, including Henry, of course, and your terrific friends - and the weather has brought - AT LONG LAST - some flowers and green! Mid-70's by the end of the week, Girl - dig out those walking shoes! Much love to you! Mary
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to hear from you yourself moo moo lady! You sound just like yourself and in great spirits. Everyday day you will get a little more strength until finally one day you will want to moo the lawn. Sorry it came over me like a flash and I just could not resist.
ReplyDeleteMuch love and can't wait to see you this summer some time.

So great to hear from you yourself!!!Paige etc. have done a great job.But it's lovely to hear from you too. It's spring here too, today, with daffodils smiling in the sun and buds just colouring. We know there could be more winter, but even a taste of spring is so lovely. We moved our clocks forward today so the evenings will be lighter. I LOVE spring! You just enjoy. Every day , as someone else has written, you will feel and get stronger. Wish I could just hop on a plane and see you, but this will just have to do. Lots of love from all here 'across the water'.xxxxx
ReplyDelete10 days post-op and you seem to be doing well. Spring has a way of healing people. We have been walking everyday outside, although Elizabeth is not fond of her stroller and has to be carried most of the walk. Spring has not healed her colic but it has helped. Hugh sends his love also. Listen to those Nurses, I have heard they know what they are talking about most of the time. Remember the more you moove, even when you are sore the better you feel.
ReplyDeleteLove you
Amanda
Ah it is so nice to be home after the hospital, and even better to have so many friends to check in on you! So glad that you are so clearly on the mend and doing well. Rest up and I will bring you some seedlings to plant in your garden when you are up for it!
ReplyDeleteLove to you, Rachel M

Dear Jane,
ReplyDeleteThis is a strange form of communication, isn't it? Before you write anything, you have to decide whether you want everyone else to know what you're going to write. I don't have anything in that category. I'll give you a call as soon as Paige gives permission.
Love,
Dan-Dan
Andy and Jen shared your wonderful blog with us and we've so enjoyed reading Paige's updates. It's even better to hear from the guest of honor herself! We're so glad to hear your recovery is going splendidly, Jane. And we LOVE your new nickname!
ReplyDeleteMuch love and many hugs from C'ville,
