Happy Friday
Well Jane is doing much better. We were all there for rounds this AM, and heard everything her team of doctors said. I shook my head and tried to look knowledgeable as they rambled on. Today’s nurse is Lindsey, who is real sweet, and from Maryland. I am sure that they will get on fine. Kyle is off until Monday, but she bonded with Kyle really well. Kyle even told her a death story of his father, so she has a new one for her repertoire.
Good News:
Jane is off the pacemaker. This is great because her heart is beating regularly and on it’s own. This also means she will get to leave the ICU, and move into her own room. We are just waiting for a bed to open up.
She is eating, jello and broth, which is also great, she prefers orange jello to green, but I said green is the color of grass, so they just want to make it easier for her.
She will be ambulatory sometime today. They are going to make her walk. The only thing that will stop her is that her blood pressure will drop.
Bad News:
She is bored. When she is awake she is bored and sleepy. We all know Jane cannot sit still for long, so she is dealing with just laying there as best she can. She really does love hearing what everyone is saying, and it makes her smile so thanks and keep them coming. Also today is supposed to be a bad day according to experts, pain comes today.
On a side note, I will be heading to 7620 tonight to check on the animals. If anyone has a card or note I will be happy take it back with me on Saturday. Also if you want to stop by I should be there after 8PM. I will be leaving early so I am back at the hospital by 9am on Saturday. If Jane gets her own room Russ will be staying with her tonight. Also they will not let her leave until she can climb a flight of stairs, so we will be at Hopkins until then. Well that is all for now. I might post later in the day of she gets up, but I do not know yet.

Thanks for another great report, Paige. From Tom: Jane, I am looking into seeing whether you qualify for a subsidy under the dairy provisions of the Farm Bill.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. Very happy to hear that boredom is her biggest problem today. xoxo
ReplyDeleteOH Paige! Thank you for the news! Cheers to being bored. So thrilled with Jane's progress and heading out of the ICU. Jack and Alma have been asking about her every few hours and I know they'll be thrilled with the latest news. They send lots of prayers, love and good cheer as do Sitina and I. The pups send slobbery kissess, too!
ReplyDeleteJane and gang - We are so glad to hear such good news. Being bored is good - that means the old hyperactive Jane is back! Hurrah!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Jean and Al
What would Miss Austen say? Maybe follow Lizzie Bennett's lead and take pleasure in anticipation. Jane - enjoy this time to anticipate the BBC, summer, your garden, having a special lunch with your particular friend who has a new place in mind, the annual crab feast, and new books to read. We are so very happy that you are on the mend. lots of love, Lizzie and Lindy (who has had trouble posting) xoxxoo
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear things are improving today. Tell Jane that I have a pile of terrible scripts she can read if she gets bored. I also have a few gems. I am happy to send them her way.
ReplyDeleteMy garden is growing. I am going to buy a new plant and name it after her new cow part. I promise to send pictures.
Love - David
Glad to hear things are going well and looking up. Re: boredom. Books on tape? Caroline/Paige/Russ on books? This American life on Ipods? DVDs? All only if she has the strength of course. Surely there is someway to keep the lady entertained on her road to recovery! Let us know if there is anything we can help with/provide. On my maternity leave/c-section recovery with Ada I found the complete DVD set of Sex and the City particularly mindless and fun!
ReplyDeleteRachel M (from now on will be signing all posts with a Rachel and an M-- realized you may not have known my previous ones were from me!)
Well, I wrote yesterday that it was calving season in the Valley - and for Jane to stay put in Baltimore until further notice!! Though, by today's reports, those precautions are by the wayside! From what I've HEARD Caroline and Paige should be able to provide ample entertainment for the Queen Mother!! Thanks so very much for the updates - is just wonderful news!! Love to you, Jane!! Mary

PS. It takes about four tries to get anything to really post here-- or maybe two, which is all my posts seem to get up there twice. At any rate I don't think it's working perfectly...
I wanted to do something in honor of Jane and her new valve. So I went to Coldstone. While Maggie Moo's may have been slightly more appropriate, I was limited to what The Hybla offers. I forced myself to eat cow-produced ice cream. We must all do our part to pull together for Jane, I thought with each bite. In fact, I have made a pledge to go to Coldstone every day until she climbs that set of stairs that releases her from the hospital. Take your time, Jane. I mean, hope you're up and around real soon! ;) Lots of love to the whole Prugh clan.
ReplyDeleteSuch Great News! Glad the jello is a hit. Keep up the great progress.
ReplyDeleteLove you lots, Linda & Conn
The Baker Clan is sooo happy to hear that Jane is doing so well. If boredom is her only probably right now then I guess that is a good thing, right?? We are thinking of you guys and hoping that ya'll will be coming home really soon. Lily is still talking about Henry, Sitina and Peter Rabbit and is ready to come back for more dog walking. I'm sure Jane could use some help with dog walking when she gets home? haha. Sending you all love and well wishes for a really speedy recovery!
ReplyDeletePS. Paige, great blog and we're around and home every day if you need anything.....coffee....food.....a drink! We'd love to see you.

Hi Jane,so glad to hear you're up and beating regularly today. That's fabulous news. To add to something Tom C. said...Does Obama's health care bill cover bovines or parts thereof? It must! Well, you take care and aim for the stairs when ready. I'm so glad you're making such good progress. And thanks to Paige, Caroline, and Russ for keeping us all rounded up in the pasture. Much Love, Ginnie V.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane and family,
ReplyDeleteIf Jane is bored, sit around and plan another fabulous trip to take when she is all healed. I am sure there must be someplace in this world she hasn't been or would like to go back to!
Hughy sends his love. He wrote you a special note today that will arrive in the mail soon. He has had a terrific time this trip, petting a kangaroo and baby sheep, going to a cave, civil was museum and this morning he went to the farm to help Mercer feed and clean stalls (6:30 am)he wanted to go so bad he slept in his clothes!!
Lots of hugs,
The Kentucky Crew
Jane, I'm reading the newly published novel The Secret Life of Emily Dickinson, set in Amherst and starts with Emily as a student at Mt. Holyoke. About her family relationships and her tempered rebellion. So far, it's a good read. Right up your alley. Someone needs to get you a copy when you're ready to read. It's spring in the mountains today but I'm too wise to think this will last. Such good news that you are recovering on track. Don't worry about those stairs--it'll come with time and rest. Love you, my dear.
ReplyDeletePaige, Harvey and I want to know if we qualify for continuing education credits after reading your excellent blow-by-blow surgical description. Tell Jane this is better than watching "House." I just read about all sorts of new Jane Austen related books that sound great, let us know when you're ready to read. Love and Kisses, Alice and Harvey
ReplyDeleteI am grateful for all the encouraging--heartening!- news about Jane's progress. She's doing well, spring's here, the sun is shining, who could ask for anything more? That reminds me of another of my favorite songs that poses an apropos question: Or would you rather be a pig? Jane's answer was no. She has always swung on stars and gathering moonbeams, and I'm hoping that morphine is make those activities more fun than ever.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of pigs makes me think of cows. Jane's new valve seems to me not so much a part of her as a new friend she's harboring in her bosom. How about a name for this friend? Bossie? Daisy? Clover? Flo?
Paige, thank you so much for providing a way to keep up-to-date with Jane. I want you to know that your comment about Hulu--which I'd never heard of before--prompted me to google it immediately and sign up. It's a real boon since we don't have cable.
I didn't mean to remain totally anonymous. That post about pigs and moonbeams is from Sarah
