Hello adoring friends of Jane and fans of Paige, Caroline here. Full disclosure, right off the bat, this is not going to be as funny a post as Paige. I am not the funny one and if I were to be funny, it would only be because I learn/stole my funniness from Paige.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way….Well, we just came back from visiting with Mom. She basically kicked us out, kept claiming she was “sleepy” – I’m trying not to read too much into the fact that Paige wasn’t with us, she’s home checking on the animals and collecting the cards (and balloon!) that all you kind people left for her to bring back to the hospital. Maybe she really was sleepy. She had a real meal for dinner – chicken and mash potatoes (not as good as Paige’s, naturally).

Also, Mom went on not one, but two walks today. The first one was in the morning, without an audience and the second was this afternoon, she led a little parade as we followed her down the hall to a semi-private room in the ICU – yes, she has almost made it out of the ICU! Hopefully a bed will open up downstairs for her tomorrow and we’ll actually get to really spend some time with her. Paige will be back, so we know that she’ll be awake and laughing.

Thanks again for all your posts. She loves to hear them (Paige usually reads them, so you know all your jokes are in good hands). We are definitely firm believers that laughter is the best medicine and the road to recovery is paved with the love and prayers of good friends.

Love to all,

Caroline

  1. It's good to hear from you, Caroline. I perceive relief in your post tonight. Laughter is certainly good for the soul and so is news that a good friend is walking, eating, sleeping and on the mend. You, Russ, Kate, and Paige can breathe signs of relief and joy. The next days and weeks won't be all rosy, but the worst is over and Jane has her devoted family and friends to help her get back to her delightful self. Give her a gentle hug from me.

  2. All well on the home front. Puck has taken to sleeping in mama janes bed with his new lady. (corgi stuffed animal) so her bed will be warm. Lonely here without the lady to play with.

  3. Caroline, your words are comforting to your audience so I can only hope they are equally comforting to you. Great to hear of Jane parading the hospital. I am certain she is making all sorts of friends with her smile alone (you are applying the pink lipstick, right?). Love to you and Paige and Russ and Kate. Appreciative to walk beside you in this albeit electronically. Can't wait to be by Jane's side in person. Love, hugs, and smiles!

  4. Great, great news from Caroline. Jane, I am astounded at your progress. I can tell the old compulsive determination to move forward is working for you. I hope you can also feel all the efforts of your friends and your four devoted children to cheer you onward toward that goal of coming home. It won't be long.

  5. Jane, there was never a doubt in my mind that you wouldn't let a mere life & death surgical procedure keep you out of commission any longer than necessary. But what has been wonderful to read is the lovely example of an often uncommon experience - the devotion and love present and accounted for from your family. Lady, in so many respects, you are one Lucky Gal. And I know you know it.
Try to enjoy the hosptial service and food - you'll soon be back to your own devices!

  7. Great to hear Aunt Jane is on her feet a bit and we are hoping for a speedy recovery. Not great to hear that she is bored though and we'd be happy to fix that by sending Paulie over to keep her company. We could even throw in a one-month old too to ensure even more activity. Lots of love from Doug, Melissa, Paul and Britton.
